Achieving Your Goals
One of the best ways to discover exactly what is keeping you
from achieving your goals is to analyze how much you want
to succeed. By honestly examining your desire to succeed you
will find out how strong your will power is and how many resources
you have to put into goal achievement and succeeding. Unfortunately,
for many people, this is a difficult thing to do.
We hide our failures and disappointments because they cause
us pain. The psychological connections are a lot more complicated,
but the simple explanation is that our mind naturally eliminates
all the factors that are potentially harmful to us. This is
how our most daring dreams and ideas get hidden somewhere
deep in our subconscious mind and we are afraid to bring them
out. The idea of succeeding is often much weaker than the
fear of failure, and this fear is keeping our potential suppressed.
In addition, the customs of society often reinforces our natural
fear of failure. As we mature into adulthood we are taught
to abandon the dreams and hopes we had as children and see
the "reality" in the situations surrounding us. Society teaches
us to follow a set, accepted path and not to stray. While
creating order, this process also limits creativity and passion.
We become responsible citizens, but we're often left feeling
like we should want more.
There are a few tricks that may help you achieve your goals:
Begin by writing each of your goals down. Seeing the words
on paper has a strong effect and you will soon realize if
your ideals are worth fighting for. Try to examine each of
your goals through your own eyes. Don't let others around
you influence your view - you are trying to reach your ideal,
not theirs. Don't write your list in stone. Let them stay
flexible - there's nothing wrong with erasing or adding to
your list.
Try to envision yourself reaching your ideal. By constructing
an image of success in your conscious mind you will influence
your subconscious mind to do the same. Project yourself into
the future, with all the skills you need to reach that ideal.
If you do this often enough you will reinforce your beliefs
and increase the chances of getting where you want to be.
Sometimes it's hard to manage all the issues involved in reaching
your goals. Don't be afraid to ask for help from someone you
care about and trust. Share your feelings with a friend or
loved one that will support your actions and always be in
your corner. It's helpful to have someone to talk with when
you're feeling overwhelmed or having trouble staying focused.
There is no magical way of achieving success, but you can
always increase the chances of reaching your goals with these
simple exercises. When you can eliminate, or at least diminish,
the fear that is holding you back, all of your expectations
will seem easier to achieve.
